Wine Notes from the Sommelier:
The 2023 Albariño is a Spanish variety with many stories of how it got here including a story of 12th century Benedictine monks who brought it from the Rheingau in Germany, hence its name translating to the "White of the Rhine." Ours is crisp and tart with aromas and flavors of pineapple and green apple. The wine is medium body with intense fruit flavors.
The 2022 Tempranillo Spanish variety was introduced to California by one of Stanford's vineyard workers, Frederic Bioletti. He later became a famous Viticulture (grape) professor. Ours is a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano. It has a dark ruby red color with ripe cherry, clove and vanilla aromas and flavors. Medium body and smooth tannins. Great with paella or BBQ.
Lastly, the 2021 Petite Sirah is a French varietal that was developed in the 1860's as a cross of Syrah and the rare Peloursin grape. Ours is dark purple-red with warm vanilla, a little spice and rich blackberry aromas as well as some toasted oak. The flavors are reminiscent to the nose with lots of dark berry fruit. Dry with bold tannins. Good pairing with steak.
